Flexible Conduit Specification Guide for Rail Industry

Flexicon has produced a flexible conduit specification guide for the protection of power and data cabling in the rail industry.

The eight-page guide details common hazards faced by cabling for both infrastructure and rolling stock and outlines some typical applications such as passenger information systems or vehicle braking systems.  It then recommends typical products to use for such applications.

Says Colin Legg, marketing manager for Flexicon:  “There are many kilometres of cabling in a typical station, notably just as much on a train and that is before considering trackside and tunnels.

“There are also many different applications in the rail industry, with cabling facing a number of hazards that might include vandalism or theft, exposure to water and/or chemicals, electromagnetic interference from other cabling, vibration and any number of other factors.  In addition any flexible conduit used has to meet international rail fire standards.

“As well as considering the flexible conduit you also need to specify the fittings.  As an example our FPA and FPAX range provide a fast fit solution – it takes less than 3 seconds to install the fitting, and offers a high tensile strength of up to 70kg and an IP rating of up to IP69k.”

“Flexicon has 47 different flexible conduit systems to choose from.   This eight page guide helps to identify the most suitable products for the rail industry."
